چکیده

This paper describes a new computational method of fully automated anisotropic triangulation of a trimmed parametric surface. Given as input: (1) a domain geometry and (2) a 3 x 3 tensor eld that speciies a desired anisotropic node-spacing, this new approach rst packs ellipsoids closely in the domain by deening proximity-based interacting forces among the ellipsoids and nding a force-balancing connguration using dynamic simulation. The centers of the ellipsoids are then connected by anisotropic Delaunay triangulation for a complete mesh topology. Since a speciied tensor eld controls the directions and the lengths of the ellipsoids' principal axes, the method generates a high quality anisotropic mesh whose elements conform precisely to the given tensor eld.

High Quality Anisotropic Tetrahedral Mesh Generation Via Ellipsoidal Bubble Packing

This paper presents a new computational method for anisotropic tetrahedral meshing that (1) can control shapes of the elements by an arbitrary anisotropy function, and (2) can avoid ill-shaped elements induced from poorly distributed node locations. Our method creates a tetrahedral mesh in two steps. First our method obtains node locations through a physically based particle simulation, which w...

Delaunay Triangulation for Curved Surfaces

Surface triangular meshing plays an important role in the areas of computer graphics and engineering analysis. Traditionally, surface meshing is achieved by mapping meshes created in 2D parametric space onto surfaces. Care is taken in generating meshes in the parametric space and mapping them to surfaces because the transformation of geometry from the parameter space to the real space could be ...

Anisotropic Triangulation of Parametric Surfaces via Close Packing of Ellipsoids

This paper describes a new computational method of fully automated anisotropic triangulation of a trimmed parametric surface. Given as input: (1) a domain geometry and (2) a 3 x 3 tensor field that specifies a desired anisotropic node-spacing, this new approach first packs ellipsoids closely in the domain by defining proximity-based interacting forces among the ellipsoids and finding a force-ba...

High Quality Geometric Meshing of CAD Surfaces

A wide range of surfaces can be defined by means of composite parametric surfaces as is the case for most CAD modelers. There are, essentially, two approaches to meshing parametric surfaces: direct and indirect. Popular direct methods include the octree-based method, the advancing-front-based method and the paving-based method working directly in the tridimensional space. The indirect approach ...

Quadrilateral Meshing with Anisotropy and Directionality Control via Close Packing of Rectangular Cells

A new technique for automatically generating anisotropic quadrilateral meshes is presented in this paper. The inputs are (1) a 2D geometric domain and (2) a desired anisotropy – defined as a metric tensor over the domain – specifying mesh sizing in two independent directions. Node locations are obtained by closely packing rectangles in accordance with the inputs. The centers of the rectangles, ...
